Who are Real Estate Brokers and Why You Would Need One

Real estate brokers act as the intermediary between a seller and a buyer of a home or a real estate property. Part of the functions of home brokers includes looking for buyers for a client selling their home, or to look for homes and sellers for a client looking for a particular type of home.

As required by local and state laws, a license should be obtained by a real estate broker before he can render services in the sales or acquisition of homes and properties. This license can include the authority to operate their brokerage office and hire certified salespersons.

These salespersons working for real estate brokers are called real estate agents and they assist sellers by becoming their agents in marketing and selling their properties at the best possible price. In a similar manner, agents also act as a buyer’s representative to help them look for and negotiate the purchase of a property.

A real estate agent obtains their license in the state where they will practice their profession. An individual can take this exam after completing the require course and training. An agent from one state needs to take the licensing exam in order to practice in another state, although most states do not require the required classes to be taken anew.

Home real estate brokers have different levels of requirements for their licenses, which includes different class and training modules, on top of a different examination. Classes include other subject matters related to the real estate industry.

After a few years working in a brokerage, a real estate agent can take the same classes, training and examinations required for residential or commercial real estate brokers. After obtaining this license, real estate agents can put up a brokerage firm on their own. In some states, real estate agents with relevant college education can take the real estate broker exam without the required years of experience.
